Teak leaves have the same effect as catappa leaves but without the brown discolouration of the water. They release disease inhibitors and are an excellent food source for shrimp. Teak leaves contain tannins that are slowly released into the water. These substances are disease resistant and slightly lower the pH.It also takes a long time for teak leaves to decay in the water. Where a catappa leaf decays after + – a month a teak leaf takes + – 2 months. In this way you can take advantage of leaves in different stages of decomposition in the water. Shrimp eat the soft leaves and can therefore be supplied with food for a long time. Ideal holiday/vacation food !Teak tree (Tectona grandis) have long been used in South Asia especially by growers and keepers of tropical fish and shrimp in the same way as the Catappa leaves. The Teak leaves are not very well known yet this is mainly due to the fact that they are difficult to obtain.
