Pearl Gourami

The Pearl Gourami (Trichopodus leerii) is a stunning freshwater fish prized in the aquarium trade for its iridescent, pearl-like spots and peaceful demeanor. Native to Southeast Asia, particularly in regions like Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo, the Pearl Gourami inhabits slow-moving, acidic waters rich in vegetation.

Key Features:

• Appearance: The Pearl Gourami has a silvery body covered in white, pearl-like spots, with a black line running from its mouth to the caudal fin. Males exhibit more vibrant colors and a reddish-orange chest, especially during breeding.
• Size: Typically grows up to 4-5 inches (10-12 cm) in captivity.
• Temperament: Known for its gentle nature, making it suitable for community tanks with other peaceful species.
• Diet: Omnivorous, feeding on a mix of flakes, pellets, live, and frozen foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp.

Aquarium Care:

• Social Behavior: Best kept in small groups (at least 3-5) where males are less likely to become territorial. Avoid pairing them with aggressive species.

Breeding:

Pearl Gouramis are bubble nest builders. The male constructs a floating nest where eggs are deposited. The male guards the nest while the female is removed to prevent harm. After hatching, fry should be fed with infusoria and later brine shrimp.
