The Orange Star is a harder to keep starfish. They are very sensitive to changes in pH, temperature, and salinity and can be difficult to feed. Care should be taken to inspect Linckia frequently for parasitic snails, which usually take on the color of its host. Remove them immediately. These stars require a two hour, temp controlled, drip acclimation to avoid damage that can lead to bacterial infections.
Linckia starfish consume bacterial films, and sponges. Because of this, they should be introduced into well established aquaria of no less than 1 year. They need large aquariums and should have their diet supplemented with meaty foods like krill, squid, clam, Ocean Nutrition Angel Formula and even live sponge. We consider these to be expert only for long-term success.
