Cherry Barbs are along-time staple of the freshwater aquarium industry. With their vibrant, cherry red coloration, peaceful attitude, and hardy disposition, it’s no wonder this fish is nearly ubiquitous in the trade. The bodyshape is the classic torpedo shape, with horizontal bands running across the body. Females will generally be larger, rounder, and display more muted coloration.
Cherry Barbs grow to a maximum size of 2 inches, and make an excellent schooling fish in tanks of 20 gallons or more. They’re a veryhardy species, and can adapt to most common water conditions, and should be kept in a community tank with other peaceful species. To feel comfortable, Cherry Barbs should be purchased inschools of 5 or more, and should also be provided with plenty of plants and cover.
Cherry Barbs are omnivorous, and will readily accept prepared foods, vegetables such a zucchini and pease, and meaty or live options.
