Brittle Starfish – Ophiocoma spp.

While they may look menacing with their battery of spikes, brittle stars are a harmless addition to your tank.Brittle stars come in numerous species and color variations, includingblack, green, red, cream colored, or even striped . Being a nocturnal rock dwelling species, you’ll rarely see more than and arm sticking out from your rockwork to snag a morsel of food.

Care

Once established, brittle stars don’t require special care, but they are very sensitive to parameter swings, especially during acclimation. Also, as with all sea stars, care should be taken to minimize or limit exposure to air.

Diet

Brittle stars are largely detritivores, and will come out of their hiding places at night in search of meaty bits of missed food.
