The Blue Hippo Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus) is a coral safe fish that is usually peaceful towards other tank mates. It can be aggressive towards its own kind. In order to keep more than one Blue Tang, a group of juveniles will need to be added at the same time. It needs a 72″ or bigger, 180+ gallon aquarium, when full grown. The aquarium should have lots of rock to hide in, and plenty of space to swim around. The diet of this fish should contain a large amount of marine based seaweed and algae. Blue Tangs will eat meaty foods, but frequent feedings of dried seaweed products like Sea Veggies or Seaweed Select are required for long term success. Since the Blue Tang is more susceptible to lateral line disease, fin erosion, Ich and other skin parasites, more attentive care is required. Ensure you maintain the highest water quality, and offer a varied diet, rich in nutritious marine-based algae, and soaked in vitamins, to keep your Blue Tang in optimal health. Max size is around 12″.
