Eriocaulonbreviscapum is a rare and highly sought-after plant, with an uncertain origin that is thought to possibly be rooted in the Indian subcontinent or western peninsula.
It is often called, or is sold as a variant of Eriocaulon‘feather duster’ or ‘social feather duster’, due to its rarity, as with other Eriocaulon speices, there is still a lot we don’t know about this genus of plants.
It bears a resemblance to Eriocaulon sp. ‘Japan Needle Leaf’, but boasts a more delicate structure. The leaves are more narrow, approximately 1 mm in width. The rhizome develops into a dense cluster of individual shoots over time, reaching a length of over 30 cm. The leaves themselves are incredibly fine and flexible.
When used in the background, it creates long, trailing leaves that reach the top of the aquarium and form a curtain like effect. It features long, green leaves that grow upright without sending out runners. Its contained growth makes it perfect for creating a tranquil, low-maintenance background in your aquarium.
This plant does well in medium to strong lighting conditions, CO2 supplementation is beneficial for ‘Feather Duster’ as is the use of aquasoil as a substrate.
Propagation is a simple process, involving the division of established clumps and separation of individual shoots.
