Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae is a stunning aquatic plant native to the limestone-rich waters of Southern Thailand, where the environment is characterised by hard, mineral-rich water. This variety of Cryptocoryne is particularly well-suited to aquariums with similar water conditions, thriving in environments where the water has higher hardness and alkaline properties.

As with many Cryptocoryne species, C. crispatula var. balansae requires an acclimatisation period before it can establish strong growth. During this time, the plant adjusts to its new environment, ensuring that once acclimated, it thrives and grows vigorously.

How to use Cryptocoryne crispatula var ‘balansae’

Over time, this plant develops long, graceful leaves that can grow anywhere between 20 to 60 cm in length, providing an elegant, lush addition to any aquarium setup. The plant forms a rosette, typically reaching a width of 15 to 20 cm, making it perfect for adding structure and visual interest to aquascapes.

Ideal for moderate to high light conditions, it is often placed in the midground or background of aquariums, where its tall, slender leaves can create a beautiful contrast to other aquatic plants.

Plant Maintenance

Cryptocorynes are generally easy to care for and require minimal maintenance, you can pinch unhealthy leaves of from the base or ones that have grown to large.

We find dosing Seachem Advance daily for the first 10 days after planting reduces melt, or at least helps it to bounce back quicker.
