The Mystery Wrasse, sometimes referred to as the Whitebarred Wrasse or Fivebarred Wrasse has yellow, blue, and purple hues outlining a smile on the face. The majority of the body is reddish-maroon with thin, white vertical stripes and an eyespot surrounded by a yellowish hue on its green tail. Some younger fish will have more green in the body, which will quickly change to red in the aquarium.
This hard to find species is suitable for a 90 gallon or larger aquarium with lots of live rock and a sandy bottom. It is an excellent fish for a reef aquarium and passive with most popular reef fish, including other wrasses. It is constantly searching for live foods in the form of small crustaceans like pyramidellid snails and commensal flatworms. When full grown, mature Mystery Wrasse may take a liking to smaller ornamental shrimp that are introduced after the wrasse is established in the reef aquarium.
The Mystery Wrasse diet should include vitamin enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods along with a high quality marine flake and marine pellet food.

Mystery Wrasse are an uncommon and unique species native tocoral reefs in the West to Central Pacific. The center of their bodies is bubblegum pink with several hairline thin white vertical lines. The head and tail areas are yellow, with striking pink and purple swirling over the yellow head and a false eye spot on the tail.
The Mystery Wrasse grows to about 4.75″, and is an active swimmer requiring a tank of 90 gallons or larger. As with most fairy wrasses, once acclimated, they’re generally a hardy and easy to keep species. They are reef safe, andusually won’t bother invertebrates like many wrasse species.Unlike some wrasse don’t require sand, preferring to sleep in a slime cocoon at nighttucked into the rock. A well fitted cover should be provided to prevent this species from jumping.
Mystery Wrasse are carnivores, and should be provided with a diet rich in meaty frozen foods.
